Karl Bruckmeier é Professor aposentado de Ecologia Humana da University of Gothenburg e do National Research University – Higher School of Economics, Moscow. É licenciado e doutorado em Sociologia pela Free University of Berlin. Lecionou Ecologia Humana e Sociologia em Gotemburgo e Moscovo, e foi professor convidado na The Free University of Brussels e na Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa. As suas principais áreas de interesse incluem ecologia humana e social, desenvolvimento rural e urbano, sociologia ambiental e gestão de recursos naturais.


Interesses de Investigação:

Ecologia humana, desenvolvimento sustentável (urbano e rural), alterações climáticas globais, segurança alimentar.

  • 2013-2015: ”RETHINK – Rethinking the links between farm modernization, rural development and resilience in a world of increasing demands and finite resources” (researcher, Swedish team; project funded by RURAGRI, international European research project);
  • 2009-2013: “SECOA – Solution to Contrasts in Coastal Areas” (leader of the Swedish team; EU-funded international project, cross national study of sustainable development in metropolitan coastal areas in eight European and Asian countries);
  • 2006-2008: “CORASON - Rural Sustainable Development in the Knowledge Society” (co-coordinator, leader of the Swedish team; EU-funded international project, comparison of the conditions for rural sustainable development in twelve European countries);
  • 2003-2005: “FRAP - Development of a Procedural Framework for Action Plans to Reconcile Conflicts Between the Conservation of Large Vertebrates and the Use of Biological Resources: Fisheries and Fish-eating Vertebrates as a Model Case” (researcher, Swedish team; EU funded international project, conflicts between fishery and species protection).
  • 1994-1996: “Sociological Inquiry into the Conditions Required for the Success of the Supporting Environmental Measures Within the Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy” (coordinator, leader of the German team; EU-funded project, comparison of the agri-environmental policy in German, France and Portugal)
