Fernando Bessa Ribeiro holds a PhD in Social Sciences by the Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and he obtained in 2016 his aggregation in Sociology by the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Currently, he is Associate Professor of the Sociology Department of Instituto de Ciências Sociais of the Universidade do Minho and Integrated Researcher at CICS.NOVA.UMinho. His main themes of research are capitalism and development, gender and sexuality and HIV/AIDS infection, on which he published several books and articles in national and international journals. More recently, he also started to work on urban issues, being member of the project “Modos de vida e formas de habitar: Ilhas e Bairros Populares no Porto e em Braga”, funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT).
