On April 28 and 29, CIUL will host a new edition of the Encontro UniverCidades: Ideias para Lisboa.

Held annually, this initiative aims to showcase, through open dialogue, outstanding academic work about Lisbon carried out by students and researchers. These studies are based on strategic areas defined by the Lisbon City Council (CML), in collaboration with partner faculties and institutes.

Academia is, by excellence, a hub for generating new ideas, and it is CIUL’s role to promote and communicate them—paving the way for the future.

On April 28, CIUL will present studies and proposals focused on the development of Lisbon, considering current challenges and concerns in urban management.

On the afternoon of April 29, a guided and narrated tour of the Monsanto Forest Park in Lisbon is scheduled, featuring:

The Chalcolithic Settlement of Montes Claros, presented by the Lisbon Archaeology Centre

The Monsanto Interpretation Centre, led by the Division for the Management of the Monsanto Forest Park and Environmental Awareness

Located in the heart of Lisbon, the Monsanto Forest Park dates back to November 1, 1934, the day Decree-Law no. 24625 was passed to establish its creation on former, depleted farmland. The initiative came from Duarte Pacheco, then Minister of Public Works, who envisioned a vast green area for the city. The park’s design, by Francisco Keil do Amaral, was inspired by similar examples from other European capitals. Today, it stands as Lisbon’s largest green space—home to diverse fauna and flora that conceal its prehistoric origins, still visible in the landscape. The visit will explore the area’s biodiversity, with a stop at the Interpretation Centre, including a visit to the Fito-ETAR, and an exploration of the Chalcolithic heritage near Montes Claros.
