Academy and tiredness: Feminist research and labour intensification

The conference "Academy and tiredness: Feminist research and labour intensification" will take place on 9 December at 17.00. The central theme of the event will be the issue of increasing work in Portuguese university spaces, through the lens of critical feminist theories. It is an event organised by the Grupo de Estudos Interdiciplinares em Ciências Sociais (GEICS) of CICS.NOVA.UMinho.

Maria do Mar Pereira (University of Warwick/ University of Lisbon - CIEG) analyses the paths taken by science in these same institutions - which she considers to be "performative" -, seeking to verify how patterns tend to be established by means of modelling processes and what their impact is on the newly instituted feminist studies. Using ethnography, carried out in the context of Portuguese academies, the speaker seeks to understand the spaces created by this specific area of knowledge, as well as the exhaustion and illness on the part of the members of this same academic context, particularly those who make up the area of knowledge in question.
